The E1 euphonium is available in four different thicknesses: 0.50 mm, 0.55 mm, 0.60 mm and 0.70 mm. This offers the player the option of a thin and lighter instrument, offering direct response and a free blowing sound, or for a thicker gauge instrument with a more dense and solid tonal core. Custom areas include thickness, described in the paragraph above, and also bell material. The tradition of fine metalwork is deep in Adams instrument-making culture, and among their many points of pride are the quality of the bell materials and of course, their workmanship in turning them. Bell options include:
Yellow Brass: The sound is clear and brilliant at all dynamic levels with a good core and great projection.
Gold Brass: Gold brass is smooth, rich and dark, yet still lively and agile. It responds quickly and has good projection without being quite as brilliant as yellow brass.
Red Brass: The richest, warmest sound available. Higher in copper content, it offers smooth transitions note to note. Articulations are slightly veiled, wide sound shape.
Sterling Silver: Darker and thicker ed at soft to medium volumes. When pushed, high overtones are more present and the result is a wonderful sound with great sparkle.
Finish Options
Raw Brass: No finish. The raw material of the instrument is only polished.
Silver Plated: Livens and energizes the sound slightly.
Gold Plated: Leaves the sound very similar to the original raw state.
Clear Lacquer: Maintains the appearance of the raw material.
Gold Lacquer: A gold sheen is added to the clear lacquer.
Copper Lacquer: A copper sheen is added to the clear lacquer.
Antique Colored Lacquer: Gives the instrument an antique look.
