Description
The J-45 has been a staple and top-seller for Gibson since its debut in 1942. Renowned for its durability, the stripped-down round shoulder dreadnought design was nicknamed "The Workhorse." Over the years, the J-45 has been a go-to for legends like James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, as well as modern songwriters like Aimee Mann, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) and James Mercer (The Shins).
J-45 Standard Tonewoods and Bracing
The 2019 J-45 Standard acoustic-electric continues this tradition pairing a mahogany body with a?Sitka spruce top and Vintage Sunburst gloss finish. Sitka spruce is the most popular top wood for steel-string acoustic guitars, beloved for both its projection qualities and broad dynamic range. Just as popular, mahogany is desired for its warm timbre, resonance, sustain and extra boost on the low end. All of this, combined with traditional hand-scalloped X bracing, makes it a solid choice for fingerpickers and strummers looking for reliable, instantly recognizable tone.
SlimTaper Neck
Outfitted with a rosewood fingerboard, the 2019 J-45 Standard's SlimTaper mahogany neck is slimmer as it goes up the fingerboard. This makes it "faster" and more familiar for electric players transitioning to acoustic. The compound dovetail neck-to-joint design ensures better sound transfer and feel, while its nickel Grover Rotomatic tuning machines will help you keep it in tune longer.
L.R. Baggs Electronics
Making it a great choice for gigging performers or singer-songwriters ready to hit the stage, Gibson equipped the 2019 J-45 Standard acoustic-electric with an L.R. Baggs VTC soundhole-mounted pickup. With worry-free performance, it gives you discrete, easy-to-use volume and tone controls to hone in your sound.
